Webster City Enhances Parks and Recreation Amenities

Splash Pad Groundbreaking Set for Thursday

Webster City, Iowa: City of Webster City officials, Webster City Parks and Recreation, and Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce plan to hold a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony at East Twin Park on Thursday, April 4th at 4PM. The groundbreaking ceremony will officially kick off construction for enhanced amenities and splash pad in East Twin Park.

Webster City was recently awarded an Iowa Tourism CAT grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority for completion of the splash pad. Several area business and industry partners also stepped forward to contribute to the project including a $50,000 donation from Seneca Foundry, Webster City’s century old iron casting foundry. The parks and rec project was also a recipient of an Enhance Hamiton County Foundation Grant award.

Other significant donations were offered from Webster City Custom Meats, K.C. Nielsen, Peoples Credit Union, and a variety of gifts from private donors. A local splash pad was identified as a top priority during the city’s Parks and Recreation comprehensive planning process in 2019. After being delayed for several years, commitments and grant awards from the above partners put the project back as a priority.

Quality of life amenities and enhancements to our local park systems allow Webster City to gain an advantage in a time of competitive workforce recruitment/attraction efforts and challenging housing market conditions.

“The splash pad will provide a welcoming environment for families to gather and socialize, strengthening community bonds and fostering a sense of togetherness. It is designed to accommodate individuals of all abilities, providing an inclusive space where everyone can participate in active water play,” Breanne Lesher, Webster City Parks and Recreation Director said in a prepared statement.

Local contractor, Peterson Construction, intends to complete construction by late summer of 2024. A formal ribbon cutting will follow.

Community members and local youth are encouraged to attend the formal ceremony. Remarks will be made by local officials and donors. Donations and sponsorship tiers are still available for anyone interested in supporting the project.
