Murray Fest Midwest Awarded $10K Iowa Tourism Grant

Webster City, Iowa to Host Premier Poultry and Homesteading Festival June 29-30, 2024

Webster City, Iowa: A first-of-its-kind event for the area, Murray Fest Midwest will offer a premier poultry and homesteading festival in Central Iowa. Whether you’re a backyard chicken keeper, a budding homesteader, or hobby farmer, you’ll learn new skills and find valuable resources at Murray Fest Midwest. The event is organized by Murray McMurray Hatchery, a 107-year-old multi-generational hatchery in Webster City.

The Iowa Tourism office reports in 2022, visitors spent over $6.9 billion across the Iowa economy. This direct visitor spending impact generated a total economic impact of $10.4 billion in Iowa, sustained 68,607 jobs and generated $1.1 billion in state and local tax revenues in 2022. 

McMurray Hatchery is a 107-year-old, Iowa legacy, with a national customer base spanning multiple generations. “As one of the oldest businesses in Iowa, we are not only committed to supporting and strengthening our local communities, but as a family-owned business we recognize the economic impact an event like this will have in supporting local businesses,” said Tom Watkins, McMurray Hatchery president.

The festival will offer a mix of learning and community. Speakers and Entertainment include Rory Feek, Jessica Sowards of YouTube’s Roots & Refuge Farm, and Coffee with the Chicken Ladies podcast duo. For the first time in company history, VIP tours will be offered at the Hatchery on Monday, July 1st following the weekend festivities.

Rory Feek is an advocate for homesteading, raising backyard chickens, and living a sustainable lifestyle. After becoming a widower and single father to his youngest daughter, he was moved to create a more impactful and intentional life filled with meaning and purpose. He has been a consistent friend and partner of McMurray Hatchery, and his passion for educating others about this lifestyle is inspiring.
